Motherhood has always been a special and powerful thing and nowhere is that shown more clearly than in the first few moments after a baby is born. The International Association of Professional Birth Photographers has announced the winners of their 2017 contest, showing this unique experience through the power of photography and the images they have captured are just breath-taking.

Each photo documents the first few precious moments of a newborn’s life and the introduction of a new family member. Have a scroll through these winning images though be warned; these do contain graphic scenes of childbirth not suitable for those with a queasy disposition…
