America is known as the melting pot of the world.
Because it’s so large, and there are so many people in the country, of such various different backgrounds, it’s hard to pick out one American who’s the same as a different American. That’s what makes the country so great. No matter who you are, or where you come from, you’ll be able to get to the top if you work hard, and fight for what you believe in.
A Korean lawyer on Twitter recently shared a story from when he first moved to the country, over two decades ago, and how the language had become this insurmountable barrier that almost defeated. Almost, if it wasn’t for a teacher.
He moved from Korea to Los Angeles.
And while his English wasn’t terrible, he did have severe issues with it.

It’s a strange thing, knowing something in one language, and being completely incapable of communicating it in another.
You feel dumb, and he wouldn’t allow himself to feel that way.
Turns out, Ms. Gallagher went above and beyond to try and grade his quiz.

She allowed him to prove himself as an intelligent human being and someone who was worthy of being American.
And things only improved for him, because now his English is good enough for other teachers to use it as a model.
Americans aren’t really Americans, they’re British who wanted to try something new. All Americans were once immigrants.
