A female bartender is a just a normal person who is working her ass off to earn a decent living. If she is smiling and being courteous to you it is because it’s part of her job. Not because she has fallen for your “charming” personality and definitely not because she has an uncontrollable sexual attraction to you.
But for some men at The Beer Cellar in Devon, UK, it’s a little too hard a concept to understand. So the bar has decided to put up a helpful sign for those thick skulls.
The sign was designed by Illustrator Charlotte Mullin. He shared his thoughts behind this work, “I wanted to make it clear that female staff is nice to you because they have to be! And, of course, most of us are decent human beings and would be nice to you anyway, but in no way does this mean we’re dying for your dick.” Well, I think the management of The Beer Cellar made a strong point to those who hadn’t already figured it out.
The Beer Cellar stood by their actions.
They defended their female coworkers because, well, they deal with the stuff they do.
Even non-bartenders agreed with the sign.
Those that called it chivalrous, were told that chivalry is demeaning.
It’s mostly the drunkards that get into it.
Lauren Dew, a bartender at The Beer Cellar, said: “We basically just printed it out after we had a very sex-pest heavy weekend about three months ago.”
When Lauren was asked about the response of customers to this, she said “people really laugh, people support it. One percent thinks it’s a bit offensive, which is funny to me because those are the people it’s aimed at.”
