They are easier to find for people who love collecting old and unique coins.
Who knows how many places that coin has traveled? Maybe that coin in your hand is worth more than you thought.
Usually, it is worthless. But if you’re fortunate, you might have something precious in your hands.
So it turns out, quarters are not the most valuable coins. Dimes can be worth more. How?
Let me tell you a story.
1894-S Barber Dime is a special dime that was minted in 1984. John Daggett, the superintendent of the San Francisco Mint, ordered the creation of 24 of these special dimes and distributed three dimes each to 7 of his friends, and the remaining three to his daughter.
John asked his daughter to be careful while spending the dimes and advised her to save them until she’s older, She, however, did the complete opposite and immediately went out to buy ice cream from one of the dimes.
9 of the 1894-S Barber Dimes still exist today, and two of them are still circulating!
Other Barber Dimes are circulating too, but their values range from $29 to $600.
So if you’re in possession of any of these really old coins, you know what to do. Go to a local coin appraiser, find out the history and worth of the coin.
Don’t have any of those special dimes?
