Journalists Accidentally Confuse A 63-Year-Old Teacher With A Fashion Icon And It Ends Up Changing Her Life

Lyn Slater isn’t the stereotypical image of a stick-thin blonde model.

At 63 years old and a professor at Fordham University, she never expected to be a fashion icon. But that is exactly what happened to her one day as she went to meet a friend for lunch outside the Lincoln Centre during New York Fashion Week. Mistaking her for a fashion icon, foreign journalists swarmed her to take pictures and the accidental fame caused her blog Accidental Icon to become a hit. Her Instagram page now boosts over 132 thousand followers and it is clear that Lyn is overjoyed with how she is breaking down barriers of age in the fashion industry.

“I think, if you are comfortable in what you’re wearing, no matter how old you are and you’re owning it, you’re going to look completely fine,” She said to Refinery29. We use language to control people’s behaviour… This phrase is a way of putting older women in their place.”

Since, Lyn has now been signed to Elite, the world’s leading model agency and has worked with several brands.

The sky is truly the limit for this wonderful lady. It seems like those photographers got it right after all- they did spot a fashion icon!
