Eating disorders are very dark and very scary.
It’s this hole of self-destruction that you cannot get out of. You lose your sense of what’s acceptable and what isn’t, and it consumes you. It’s a scary place and anyone who’s struggled with anorexia or bulimia knows what an awful place it is. If you are struggling with those things right now, contact your helpline.
This manga was originally created by horror manga artist Kazuo Umezu, who has influenced modern day hits like The Ring. His artwork has a particular flavour of violence and horror that puts you on edge, gets under your skin.
One of his works was redrawn and recreated by Hisashi Eguchi into a ten-page comic about Tomoko, an overweight girl who gets rejected by her crush and contracts an eating disorder to try and make herself “pretty”. She drops a lot of weight and finally gets to where she wants, and then…
Well, find out for yourself.
